Green Pepper Steak

Not long after we were married a co worker shared a recipe with me.  Well I should say she told me how she makes green pepper steak.  I went to the store that very day after work and bought all the ingredients needed to make this yummy dish.  I followed her suggestions and made this wonderful dish that my husband absolutely loves.  I have made this so many times I cannot count and I never measure.  In my opinion, the best recipes are the ones you just throw together.  My husband makes an absolute pig of himself when I make this.  I hope I am able to recreate this recipe so that all of you can make this and enjoy as much as we do.  I have yet to have my son try this, if you remember, he used to be picky.  Up until he became a teenager anyway.  Now he will eat anything and everything almost.  The pictures were taken before I had my new camera but it looks yummy just the same.  Lets get to it....

Take 2 to 3 green peppers and cut them into strips.  Take any kind of steak, I typically use the cheap ones here and sliced them in thin strips.  You will also need an onion sliced into strips (or chopped)

Heat up your saute pan with a tad bit of oil. Place your steak and cook that until almost done.

Throw in your peppers and onions and saute until they soften a little. I usually season with black pepper while this is sauteing in the pan.

Once the steak and the veggies are cooked add about 2 cups of water and stir. This will depend on how much steak and veggies you have. This will be what your gravy will consist of so if you feel you will need more by all means add a little more water. Then add about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Again, I eyeball this and we love soy sauce so we may use more than most. Simmer that for about 10 minutes or so. Make a slurry of cornstarch and water and bring to a boil to thicken. Serve over rice.

Green Pepper Steak

2-3 green peppers cut into strips
1 onion sliced in strips
1-2 steaks depending on size
1/4 - 1/2 cup soy sauce
pepper to taste

cornstarch

Cut green peppers, onions, and steak into strips.  Saute steak until almost done, add veggies and continue cooking until softened. Add 2 cups water and soy sauce and simmer for about 10 minutes. Make a slurry of cornstarch and water, add to the pan, and bring to a boil to thicken.  Serve over rice. Enjoy!

I add about 1/8 of a cup of molasses and I use chicken stock instead of water. Everything else is the same and sooooo so good!
